At the age of twenty-two in 1928, Peter Beilenson began printing books on a small press in the basement of his parents' home in Larchmont, New York. Peter, and later his wife Edna, sought to create fine books that sold at "prices even a pauper could afford." Today, still family-owned and operated, Peter Pauper Press continues to honor the founders' legacy and their customers' expectations of beauty, quality, and value.
This Bordeaux Journal from the publisher captures the essence of Old World charm with its delicate gold-limned tracery and ornate, antique-look design. The embossed leather-like covers in deep red, sepia brown, and black feature floral motifs outlined in gleaming gold foil, with raised embossing emulating fine hand-tooling, complementing any bookshelf.
The smooth-finish pages are lightly lined, with extra-light guidelines that allow for writing, drawing, and sketching. The high-quality paper resists bleed-through, and a crimson-red satin ribbon marker keeps your place as the pages lie flat for comfortable writing.
The journal's luminous detailing includes iridescent highlights, gold foil-stamped covers and spine, raised embossing, and gilded-gold page edging, making it shine. Bronze-hued endsheets complement the design, which is a reproduction of a gorgeous binding from the 16th century.
The Bordeaux Journal reproduces a gold-tooled and painted binding of the "Breviarium Romanum," or "Roman Breviary" (daily prayers prescribed by the Catholic Church), published by Claude Picques in Lyon, France, in 1556. The stamped centerpiece was a popular design element in decorative bindings of the time, and the finish binding for the Breviary was completed at Atelier de Fontainebleau, the royal bindery in Paris.
With 192 acid-free, archival pages that preserve your writing, this journal offers superior quality paper that takes pen or pencil beautifully. The gilded-gold page edges and the red satin ribbon bookmark add to the journal's timeless appeal, while the durable bookbound hardcover ensures its longevity.
Alongside the Bordeaux Journal, Peter Pauper Press offers a range of other exquisite journals, including the Versailles Journal, the Unicorn Tapestry Journal, the Trees in Bloom Journal, the Tree of Dreams Journal, the Timeless Tree Journal, and the Tiffany Window Journal (Magnolias and Irises). Each of these journals has earned impressive customer reviews, reflecting the company's commitment to producing beautiful, high-quality products at accessible prices.
